2016 MOONBEAM BRONZE MEDAL WINNER FOR CHILDREN'S BOARD BOOK

The Sammie and Toby Story Box. Based on the true story of best friends.

The first title in the story box, Sammie and Toby are Dogs, is an introduction to the main characters – Sammie and Toby – and is designed to teach young children about dogs by using rhyme, highlighting familiar dog traits (“they like to lick faces and go for long jogs”), and distinguishing them from other animals that are familiar to young children (“they are not chickens or frogs”).

The second title, Sammie and Toby are Friends, also uses rhyme, and focuses on friend activities (“they sniff and they dig, they wrestle and play”), the comfort of companionship (“they take care of each other, they sleep side by side”), and incorporates temporal concepts of “morning and night” and “for now and for always.”

The third title in the series, Sammie and Toby have Fun, uses rhyme, incorporates geographic diversity (mountains, beaches, and city streets), and includes fun settings familiar to young children (a ball pit, the aquarium, and the zoo).
